The Great Reno Balloon Race

The first time I ever thought about riding in a hot air balloon was when I heard the 5th Dimension’s hit Up Up and Away. That’s something I think a lot of people can say.  The song still runs through my head every time I see a balloon in the sky, and it makes me happy.

The Great Reno Balloon Race is held after Labor Day. It’s attended by many more locals than tourists. I think this is due to the fact that you have to be at the event early (6 AM) as hot air balloons fly best in the cool morning air. If you’re on an all night gambling binge, you’re ready to crash when the first crews are waking up.

The 5th Dimension is right; the world is a nicer place in a balloon. There are lots of kids at this event, and everyone, adults included, is happy.
