Normally, balloons aren’t launched before dawn. However, at the Great Reno Balloon Race, the Glow Show and the Dawn Patrol take place in the dark. In this year’s glow show, the Wells Fargo pigs were alternately lit to the music of Dueling Banjos.
Here you can see a picture of two balloons being prepped for the Dawn Patrol. After being laid out on its side, the balloon is inflated when hot air from the burner is directed into the balloon with a fan. As the balloon fills, it rises to its upright position.
This year’s Dawn Patrol consisted of five ballons.
