September 1, 2003 (Labor Day) - Originally, I was going to leave on the 2nd for my vacation and only go to Reno. But, I needed to get away really badly. So, I took off on Monday and made a side trip to Crater Lake National Park. It was worth it. I should go there more often. I highly recommend visiting the Crater Lake Lodge. According to the Crater Lake web site, the renovation of this historic building was completed in 1995 at a cost of $15 million. In my opinion, it was worth it. The lodge is beautiful. I would also like to stay at the lodge. No, I don't know how much a room costs, but I bet it's $$$. I couldn't determine the cost because the reservation page says the lodge is booked solid for the rest of the season! The National Park Service recommends that you book early. Staying at the lodge sounds strange for a guy who's running off to the neon and decadence of Reno, but the Crater Lake Lodge has a charm and location that's truly unique. It's definitely not for those in a rush. The rooms have neither a television nor a phone. There is no text for the rest of this web site. The pictures say it all.
